Once your dog is trained, living with an invisible dog fence becomes very straightforward. However, there are a few simple habits that help keep the system safe, consistent and easy for your dog to understand.

One of the most important is how your dog leaves the property. When taking your dog for a walk, always remove their DogFence receiver collar, put them on their normal collar or harness and lead, and walk them calmly across the boundary with you.

Never allow your dog to run freely across the invisible dog fence boundary, even when their receiver collar has been removed. Your dog should learn a very clear distinction: crossing the boundary alone is not permitted, but leaving the property on a lead with their owner is safe.

Some dogs can be hesitant to cross the boundary at first — after all, you’ve just spent time teaching them not to! They soon learn that their walking lead and physical contact with you act as a “safety net”, telling them that it is safe to leave.
