Can I take my dog fence with me if I move?
Yes. If you move house, you can take the main components of your DogFence system with you and have a new boundary installed at your new property.
In most cases, the underground boundary wire will stay behind, but your transmitter and your dog’s receiver collar can move with you. A new boundary wire can then be installed around your new garden or property.
This means that moving home doesn’t mean starting again with a completely new dog fence system.
Will My Dog Need to Be Retrained?
Yes, because although your dog already understands how the DogFence works, they need to learn where the boundary is at their new home.
The new boundary is clearly marked with training flags and your dog is introduced to it using the same training principles they learned originally. Dogs that are already trained to a DogFence usually understand the new boundary very quickly. If you’d like to understand the process first, read more about how a hidden dog fence works.”
We can arrange a professional retraining session if required.
Can I Change or Extend My Dog Fence Instead?
Absolutely. If you’re staying in the same property but changing the garden layout or acquiring additional land, your existing dog fence can usually be altered or extended. We can also create no-go zones within your garden to keep particular areas off limits.
We can:
- extend the boundary around additional land;
- change the route of your existing boundary;
- create internal no-go zones;
- keep your dog away from areas such as ponds, swimming pools, vegetable patches or other parts of the garden.
A boundary can also be designed to keep your dog away from a swimming pool without fencing off the entire garden. The exact options will depend on your existing system and the size and layout of your property.
What If I Acquire More Land?
Most DogFence systems can accommodate a substantial boundary, so extending an existing installation is often straightforward.
We can connect additional professional-grade boundary cable to your existing loop. If the new area exceeds the capacity of your current transmitter, the transmitter can be upgraded.
We’ve installed boundaries covering very large UK properties, including an installation using approximately 6.5 km of boundary cable.
What If I Move Overseas?
Your DogWatch equipment may be able to move overseas with you too.
Contact us before you move and we’ll help establish whether there is a DogWatch dealer in your destination country who can assist with installation and training at your new home.
